Let’s Stay Grateful!

Gratitude is one of the most amazing and powerful things in this world. Your life can be instantly turned around by just saying thank you. However, what even is gratitude and how does it achieve this?? In this blog post, I’ll be exploring this and then giving tips on how you can incorporate gratitude in your life.

What is gratitude?

Gratitude is simply being thankful and appreciating what you have. What you have does not necessarily mean material things, and I find appreciating the little things can make me feel more in a state of gratitude. For example, I am grateful that I can walk to work so when’s it’s warm, I get to walk in the sunshine and enjoy the sun England rarely has!  A lot of people associate gratitude with religion or the universe and are grateful to God or the universe. This definitely helps, but not essential for the practice of gratitude.

Why is gratitude important?

We live in a society where we are constantly comparing ourselves which happens so easily with the help of social media. We see people having luxurious things, amazing relationships goals, squad goals or having extravagant holidays. We start saying ‘Oh I don’t have this and that’, ‘I don’t have money, I don’t live a lifestyle like that person’ etc. We just continue doing this which makes us miserable. I’m reading The Secret at the moment and I do think it’s true that saying what you don’t have emphasises it more in your life.

On the other hand, if you start saying all the amazing things that you have in your life can truly transform it. Think about it, if you spent time saying how great your life is because you have x,y,z, you can exude happiness. Gratitude can change your mindset and uplift your life. There has been countless of studies which support how gratitude is wonderful for your wellbeing and makes you happier (literally go on pubmed and search gratitude and see the evidence). Gratitude is powerful and can make your life even more abundant. It makes you more humble and more resilient during bad situations as you’ll be able to see the bigger picture.

Ways to show gratitude

Write in a journal

 This is quite a popular way to show gratitude and it is my favourite way. You can get yourself a notebook and now, there are even gratitude journals you can buy. All you have to do is list what you’re grateful for (easy enough right!). This doesn’t have to be a long list, it can up even three things. Try doing this every day for a week and see if your view of life changes. When I started doing this last year, I began feeling happier. Also, I like looking at old entries to see what great things happened that day to be grateful for.

Download a gratitude app on your phone

 There are so many out there to choose from if don’t want to physically write. I’ve tried one of the apps before called (unsure of the name). It was a good app because you got to ‘check-in’ on how you were feeling every day.


 When you meditate you get to feel the flow of your body. I find when I meditate, I appreciate that I have the opportunity to be still from the hustle and bustle of life. Also, I truly get to admire how amazing the body is and all the organs wrapped into one to make me.

Just be thankful!

 Thank God, the universe, or whatever you believe in anything or not! Be thankful that you have life and all the great things you have going on right now!
