I may be a little bit late to join the bandwagon, but Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic is an incredible read. You may know this author as the lady who wrote Eat, Pray, Love and some other fiction titles. I’ve never felt so inspired to create and as someone who’s read a lot of self-help books, Big Magic is one of my favourites.
At first, I feared away from reading this book as I thought it was only for ‘creative people’. Let me elaborate on this. I watched a review of Big Magic on Youtube about a year ago. The person who made the video said the book is good for creators to be inspired to create etc. At that time, I thought there was no point reading this book as I wasn’t a creator and I didn’t even think I was creative. I was describing creative here as being artistic and didn’t think I had a single artistic bone in my body! I had started doing a bit of writing with my journaling and writing poems, but I still felt I wasn’t the right person for the book.
This year, I just felt gravitated towards buying this book and I am glad I did! This book isn’t just for creators, it’s for everybody because everybody is creative which is hugely empathised. Big Magic inspires you and encourages you to ignite your Big Magic, embrace it, nurture it, and love it! There are so many ways to be creative in the world and you just need to figure out what interests you. My new definition of being creative is having the courage to do something you love with no fear because you simply love doing it! As described beautifully in this book, you just need to figure out what enthuses you and immerse yourself in this. You never know, Big Magic may come creeping in.
Overall, this book is great and you should go and read it! If you were like me and think you’re not creative, this is far from the truth! Everyone has an imagination, everyone has dreams, you just have to give yourself permission to create whatever it is you please. So be brave and take that leap of faith!
Thank you very much for reading and I’ll see you in my next post!
